Interface between Desktop Clients using IM and VoIP

A flexible two-way communications interface between desktop clients using Instant Messaging and Voice Over IP protocols and mobiles is provided by the SMS and voice gateway.

The unique aliasing system of mobile style numbers means a mobile contact can communicate with someone via a single number, using text or voice, whether that person is on an IM client, VOIP client, mobile or landline.

Revenue generating opportunities extending into value added premium chat, workgroup, reminder and corporate services are available to IM and VOIP providers via the X-on platform.

IM Desktop to Mobile As an example, an Instant Message may be sent from a desktop user to a mobile phone contact. The sender is assigned an alias mobile number by the SMS and voice gateway. This resembles a standard mobile number such as +447... in the UK. This alias becomes a permanent number and the mobile contact can respond by SMS or voicemail. In the case of an SMS response, the sender will usually receive it as an Instant Message. Where the contact calls back and the sender doesn't have voice capabilities, a voicemail message can be taken, with a link to that message, or the message as an email attachment, being returned. As such, the gateway provides both real time and asynchronous messaging. The alias number assigned to the sender is permanent and can additionally be used for mobile-mobile SMS and Voice communications using landline, SIP or other protocols.

Bulk SMS Mobile Marketing

Bulk SMS to an opted-in and targeted database is an effective and increasingly used marketing tool. Potential customers are provided with more direct ways to respond to promotional SMS messages by the unique aliasing system of the gateway. Individual campaigns and groups of prospects can be assigned dedicated response numbers, without the need to rent or purchase these. Additionally, when a recipient responds to the promotional SMS, X-on's PhonePresence Virtual Call Centre can put the response through to an appropriate agent. Screen popping or data integration can display the content of the relevant promotion, plus additional information about the client where available. X-on uses only high quality UK routes directly connected to the networks for maximum success rate and speed of delivery of outbound bulk SMS, however SMS costs are very competitive.

Corporate Monitoring As an alias can be assigned as a static number to each member of staff, rather than dynamic, it can be a single point of contact by phone, SMS, IM or email for each individual. As the alias number is independent of direct numbers and underlying technologies, a member of staff can change mobiles or use a private number which don't need to appear in staff directories. If someone leaves, administration of the numbers stays in one place. Transactions and voice recording can be enabled via the gateway providing a complete record of both voice calls and SMS available from the administration web site. This can include a record-on-demand service for outbound SMS and mobile calls, important for some industries.

Appointment Reminders

The SMS and Voice gateway can be used as a stand-alone Appointment Reminder system or be integrated with third party Point of Sale and Appointment systems.

Recipients of SMS appointment reminders can respond via SMS, or with a voice call that is routed through to the appropriate agent or branch so the booking can be confirmed or rescheduled.

Dating and Chat Services

The alias numbering system allows anonymous contact between mobile and non-mobile users when exchanging voice and text messages and profiles. This provides the platform for a virtual chat service which can generate revenue through premium SMS and other billing mechanisms.

X-on provides integration with 3rd party services plus a published API employing web services. Support for XMPP and SIP protocols is available, and components are provided for integration with packages via VB and .NET.

Internally, the SMS gateway integrates with the PhonePresence range of virtual call centre products, plus our micro-billing platform to bill clients via SMS, premium voice and credit card.
